Hair Care

I love my hair. I know that sounds somewhat conceited but I do. I like the dark, natural brown color that I was blessed with and I love the way it shines from the root to the tips. Which is why I find it so important to try and keep it healthy. The propaganda for healthy hair, especially for women, is everywhere. From magazines to the television, hair dye and shampoo ads consume our brains, but what are the real tricks to keeping our hair healthy? What really makes a difference? Well as I provide for you a few tips, I hope they help at all costs and hopefully save you some costs!

1. Don’t wash your hair everyday! Wait, what? That’s unhygienic, right? Wrong. When you wash your hair everyday, you are stripping it from it’s natural oils that it needs so it can grow to look healthy. If you have oily hair use dry shampoo. I use Suave’s and it’s under $5. If you are blonde, baby powder works best. Also, if you do have oily hair, only use conditioner on your tips.

2. Shampoo does matter. When choosing shampoos, you should want something that’s “poo-less” or sulfate free. Sulfate’s strip your hair and can cause it to dry out faster. Especially on your tips. Sulfate-free shampoos are going to be more expensive, but better in the long run.

3. Choose your brush wisely. I just purchased a “wet brush” and I’m in love. I do have thick hair and so when I first saw it, I thought it would be too flimsy for my hair but once I actually used it, my life was changed. It doesn’t tear your hair when it’s tangling, instead it glides right through those knots. I brush my hair every chance I get.

4. Do conditioning treatments. Go buy coconut oil from the baking isle in the grocery store and apply it to your tips and leave it there. If you’re going to be laying around the house all day, do a full treatment. I would apply the coconut oil just to your ponytail and blow dry it until it somewhat hardens and leave it in there for the rest of the day and then wash it out with water. It will leave your hair silky smooth and have an impeccable shine.

5. Don’t overdue the heat. Try as little as possible to use your curling iron or straightener every single day. The heat can be harmful to your locks and cause split ends and damage. It’s okay to use those things every once in while, but leaving your hair natural can really make a big difference in your hair care.

I hope these five tips could help you change your perspective on hair care and give you some great tips!

Curling Your Lashes

Have you ever just wanted to make your eyelashes touch your eyelids when you opened your eyes or make them look extremely long? Go get yourself an eyelash curler! I’m obsessed with mine and as soon as I show my friends what they can do for me, they want one too. You can get them at Wal-Mart or Sally’s. I use mine right before I put on my mascara and then right after it dries. They are also super cheap! I definitely encourage this purchase! Also, there are some cheap mascaras that you can buy that are infused with a growth serum to help spark the growth in your lashes if you struggle with the length. Clinique (my all time favorite makeup store), carries the best mascara known to woman. It is the high impact extreme mascara. It always helps elongate your eye lashes. It’s under $20 too!

Relieving Stress

As you get caught up in the long stressful days of work and school and whatever else, sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves. Most importantly, we forget to give ourselves a break. I for one, never cut myself any slack. I do work 25-30 hours a week and go to school for 13 hours a week. It may not sound like much and I know other people have it worse but it’s enough for me to want to pull my hair out. So to relieve my stress, I take a bubble bath. I absolutely love bubble baths. I also love to wash my hair with tea tree shampoo. You know the minty kind. It is incredibly relaxing and I love the way it leaves my scalp tingling. Also, painting my toenails. I love all OPI nail polish! But my favorite nail polish at the moment is one from Butter/London and it is called scuppered. It is nice to treat myself every once in awhile. After all, I do deserve it. You deserve it too! So cut yourself some slack and relax! blog 7

Super Soft Skin

If there is anything that I’ve learned from Pinterest, it’s how to have super soft skin. I found a sugar scrub on there that really changed my life for the better. After you shave your legs, you just use a mixture of sugar, olive oil, and lemon juice. While your pores are still open from the hot water, this scrub exfoliates your skin and leaves it baby-bottom smooth. Also, by accidental discovery, Moroccan oil can really help those ashy elbows. If you don’t know what Moroccan oil is, it is a hair treatment that works miracles on dry ends. Especially elbows! So I highly recommend this cheap and easy way to make your skin soft! blog 6

Just Put Your Makeup On

Do you ever feel like you don’t want to get up and put makeup on? Or do anything with yourself for that matter? Sometimes in life we get so depressed that, we as women, don’t even feel worthy of the mirror. We don’t feel good enough about ourselves to put on makeup. Well that is all a lie. I know that when I get depressed or upset about something, my self esteem goes down and I just don’t feel like doing anything. Almost like even the makeup won’t help but,  C’est la vie. That’s what we have to remember. That’s life. We also have to remember that God made us, and he doesn’t make mistakes. You’re gonna have bad days but you have to remember to get up and put on your makeup because trust me, it’ll make you feel a lot better. You are beautiful inside and out. Makeup may make you a beautiful person on the outside, but if you feel pretty with it on, then your personality is going to shine through, and that is what’s going to really bring out your inner beauty. So get up and put your makeup on!

Organizing Your Jewelry

My best friend Whitney is the biggest bargainer that I know. She can literally turn any ordinary thing into something extraordinary. Her artsy personality has me jealous for one, and her room absolutely adorable and trendy. Whitney is also one of those people who has to be organized in every aspect of her life. So as I share with you what Whitney did with her jewelry, I hope it inspires you to get in touch with your artsy side too!

With $16 only, Whitney bought a cork board and started painting it. You can of course, paint whatever pattern you may like. Next, she bought ribbon, and hot glued it horizontally to the wood edges. She put tacks where ever she wanted on the board, hung her jewelry off the tacks, and voila- the perfect jewelry organizer. Image
